Any Kenyan student currently enrolled in an accredited public or registered private secondary school, special needs institution, vocational training center, or public tertiary institution/university is eligible. In compliance with Board statutory guidelines, priority scoring is accorded to total orphans, single-parent orphans, students with disabilities (PWDs), and youth from demonstrably vulnerable or low-income households. All applications undergo physical vetting by the Ward Bursary Vetting Sub-Committee.

Citizens can either obtain physical Application Form CDF 1 (Secondary) or Form CDF 2 (Tertiary) from their local Ward Liaison Office, or apply directly online via this portal under the 'Bursaries' section. Upon submission, you receive a unique Bursary Tracking Number (e.g. BUR-KMN-26-XXXX) which can be entered into the Bursary Status Tracker at any time to see if your application has been verified, vetted, approved, or issued a cheque.

Pursuant to Public Finance Management (PFM) Act rules, NG-CDF bursary payments are never issued in cash or made payable to individual students. All approved awards are disbursed exclusively via official crossed bank cheques or electronic fund transfers made directly to the officially registered bank account of the beneficiary secondary school, college, or university.

The NG-CDF dedicates not less than 25% (approximately Ksh 15 Billion annually) to Education Bursaries, benefiting over 1.2 million students each year.

Eligibility: Needy and vulnerable students enrolled in recognized secondary schools, special needs institutions, vocational colleges (TVETs/TTIs), Kenya Medical Training Colleges (KMTC), and public/private chartered universities.

Application Process: Pick or download the official Bursary Application Form, obtain verification from local chiefs, religious leaders, and school principals, and submit before the announced intake deadline. Bursary cheques are issued directly in the name of the learning institution.
